Angus GS
Angus GS consists of over 72,000 SNPs optimally selected for Angus cattle. Angus GS was built ‘for Angus, by Angus’, and is the largest breed specific product on the market.

Angus GS contains 72,000 markers, known as single nucleotide polymorphisms (or SNPs), and is the largest breed specific product on the market.
Angus GS was built ‘for Angus, by Angus’, meaning it was designed specifically for Angus cattle in a partnership with Angus Genetics Inc, and is available exclusively to members of Angus Australia and Angus New Zealand.
Angus GS is saturated with markers that are informative in Angus cattle.
Key features of Angus GS include:
- Fertility – Angus GS detects blocks of DNA scientifically associated to embryo health, enabling scientists to pinpoint genes that enhance fertility.
- Feed efficiency – Angus GS detects genetic regions that affect feed efficiency in the Angus breed, enabling Angus breeders to push ahead on efficient feed conversion.
- Tenderness – Angus GS contains standard tenderness markers plus genes that may influence meat quality in Angus cattle.
- Great promise on the genomic frontier – Included with Angus GS are potential markers for health traits and environmental adaptability
Angus GS is the genotyping platform of choice for inclusion in the TransTasman Angus Cattle Evaluation, and provides Australian and New Zealand Angus breeders with the opportunity to access more accurate Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) for their animals.
Using Angus GS, Angus breeders can make selection decisions with more confidence, earlier in an animal’s life, and for economically important traits that are hard to measure on farm, ultimately leading to an increase in genetic gain.
Angus GS contains highly informative markers for parentage verification, and is also compatible with ‘add-on’ testing for recessive genetic conditions and qualitative traits relevant to the Angus breed.
