Sheep Poll Test
The Sheep Poll Test is designed for Merino breeders and involves testing animals that are phenotypically polled, and identifying those that are predicted to be homozygous polled animals.

The Sheep Poll Test is designed for Merino breeders who are looking to transition from a horned to a polled flock.
The Sheep Poll Test involves testing animals that are phenotypically polled, and identifying those that are predicted to be homozygous polled animals (i.e. will only pass polled genes onto their progeny),
versus those that are carriers for the horned gene (i.e. will pass horned genes to 50% of their progeny).
Selection of homozygous polled animals, versus simply selecting phenotypically polled animals, increases the proportion of polled progeny from a particular mating, which in turn increases the speed of transition from a horned to polled flock.
The Sheep Poll test is available for Merino animals only.
